The WMMP development process (2016/17)
From March to May 2017 the region’s councils consulted on the Draft WMMP. The timeline below shows the process leading up to the adoption of the final WMMP in August 2017.
2016
- 5 December: Pre-consultation with councils and iwi on the draft Wellington Region Waste Management and Minimisation Plan (WMMP)
2017
February
- 27 February: Wellington Region Waste Management and Minimisation Plan Joint Committee meet to finalise the draft plan
March
- 1 March: Councils adopt the draft plan (and Waste Assessment) for public consultation with their 2017/18 draft annual plans
- 22 March: Upper Hutt City Council begins consultation on the draft plan
- 24 March: Carterton District Council begins consultation on the draft plan
- 28 March: Hutt City Council begins consultation on the draft plan
- 31 March: Kāpiti District Council begins consultation on the draft plan
April
- 3 April: Porirua City Council begins consultation on the draft plan
- 7 April: Masterton and South Wairarapa district councils begin consultation on the draft plan
- 18 April: Wellington City Council begins consultation on the draft plan
- 24 April: Carterton District Council closes consultation on the draft plan
- 28 April: Upper Hutt, and Hutt City councils close consultations on the draft plan
May
- 1 May: Porirua City Council and Kapiti District Council close consultation on the draft plan
- 3 May: Councils' annual plan oral hearings start (including hearing submissions on the draft WMMP)
- 8 May: Masterton District Council closes consultation on the draft plan
- 12 May: South Wairarapa District Council closes consultations on the draft plan
- 19 May: Wellington City Council closes consultation on the draft plan
June
- Early June: Council officers generate summaries of the submissions and write recommendations
- By 16 June: Councils decide if they want to change their local action plans and/or make recommendations for final amendments to the regional action plan
July
- 10 July: Meeting of the Wellington Region Waste Management and Minimisation Plan Joint Committee to consider submissions and make recommendations for changes to the draft plan
- 31 July: Meeting of the Wellington Region Waste Management and Minimisation Plan Joint Committee to finalise the plan
August - October
- All councils adopt the Wellington Region Waste Management and Minimisation Plan 2017-2023
